Police were called to a crash on the A1 dual carriageway in Rutland last night (Wednesday, February 26) after a car smashed into several big road signs, destroying them and badly damaging the vehicle itself. The driver was taken to hospital with what Leicestershire Police described as minor injuries.

The force said officers arrested a man for allegedly failing to complete a drink-driving breath test. It shared images from the crash scene, near Tinwell.

The police said: "We were called to attend an RTC at around midnight. This driver was lucky to escape from his wrecked car with only minor injuries just off the A1 near Tinwell.

"He was transported to Peterborough hospital by ambulance after being initially checked over by the fire service prior to their arrival. Fortunately no one else was involved but the car destroyed several large roadsigns." The force said the arrested man was "also being investigated for driving without a licence, having no insurance and for immigration offences".
