A woman said she was taken aback to find a "little-known" button on her washing machine. The woman, named Faith, took to the Facebook group "Cleaning tips and tricks" to share her discovery, and also shared before and after photos of her machine.
She confessed she didn't know the drawer could be removed entirely for cleaning until she found a button that released it. After seeing how dirty the drawer was, she cleaned it with warm water, washing up liquid and a toothbrush.
Sharing her results, she exclaimed: "How on earth did I not know this drawer came out?!" Many other group members also admitted they were unaware of the button. Mandy commented: "They say you learn something everyday..... Well today I learned this thank you x."
JJ asked: "Really this top section comes out???!" Mary said: "Are you serious? I'm forever bashing my knuckles trying to clean the inside and your telling me this whole time I could have just simply pulled it out? Running off to try now."
Sofie asked: "How do you clean the inside part though? And get rid of all that black grime? The drawer is, easy enough to clean as it pulls out but wat about the inside of where the drawer came from?" Faith told her she uses an old toothbrush for cleaning, reports Yorkshire Live.
Emma asked: "What causes the blackness behind the drawer? Don't know if I've just been lucky but never had it. I always just use powder." Janine clarified that fabric softener is often a culprit for mould growth and recommended swapping to white vinegar and lavender oil.
Eileen also advised: "Always leave your dispenser drawer slightly open after wash as this helps reduce amount of mould you get." However, Jayne asked: "Doesn't anyone read the manuals any more?"
A cleaner machine means more efficient washes, which could save you money in the long run.
