More than 25 new acts have joined the Splendour bill headlined by Bloc Party, Kaiser Chiefs, Travis and Jake Bugg at Nottingham’s Wollaton Park. The Nottingham music festival, taking place on July 19 and 20, is expecting a 30,000-strong crowd, making it the biggest yet in its 17-year history.
The Splendour, Confetti, On The Hill, and Comedy stages are back again this year and they're bringing three new stages with them - The Bodega New Music Stage, Dance Stage and Day Fever Stage - for a weekend of live music stacked with crowd-pleasing hit songs.
The Bodega Stage will see the intimate Nottingham live music venue bring the most hotly-tipped national artists to Splendour as it continues its stellar reputation for giving a platform to exciting new music. Always with its ear to the ground, The Bodega was last year shortlisted for the Grassroots Venue of the Year at the LIVE awards and has just this week been named a finalist in the equivalent Music Week Awards category.
Over at the new Dance Stage, Trevor Nelson’s Soul Nation, featuring the man himself, along with Shola Ama, take up residence on Saturday with Hedkandi founder Mark Doyle and Hedkandi DJs, Sax and Percussion celebrating 25 years of the global dance brand on Sunday.
Day Fever will see all three creators of the daytime clubbing phenomenon, Vicky McClure, Johnny Owen and Reverend and the Makers’ Jon McClure, on DJ duties over the weekend. They’ll be inviting along a few of their music friends to join them on the decks too, so expect a surprise or two.
There’s loads to get stuck into away from the stages too with two circus tents, a cabaret bar, an independent market, the fairground and the return of the popular silent disco. It's laughter all the way at the Comedy Stage, with plenty of acts performing both days, along with fringe entertainment popping up around the festival.
On The Hill will also return for a second year, with its eclectic line-up of DJs ensuring there will be something to dance to for everyone, from Drum & Bass, Indie Sleaze, Taylor Swift anthems and a nod to Rock City in the 90s.
Workshops and games for children will run throughout both days at the dedicated Little Splendours children’s area. With children under 11 given free entry, the festival is perfect for families.
The new acts - Starsailor, Cassia, Lucy Spraggan, Remember Monday, Set In Motion - will join the already announced Bloc Party, Kaiser Chiefs, Travis, Jake Bugg, Clean Bandit, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Natasha Bedingfield and Echo & The Bunnymen. Other artists are Seasick Steve, The Levellers, The Fratellis, Elvana, LYVIA, Kezia Gill, The Publics, Kate Nash, Kingfishr, Overpass, Brooke Combe and The Amy Winehouse Band.
On the Bodega New Music Stage, Aziya, Bloodworm, Cardinals, Davoli, daydreamers, Nectar Woode, Pentire, Toby Lee, Tom A Smith and TTSSFU are confirmed, with more to come.
This year festival-goers from outside Nottingham will be able to travel to the event on dedicated coaches from major cities and towns across the Midlands and stay in accommodation right next to Wollaton Park.
Adult weekend tickets are £105, adult day tickets £69 (+ booking fee) plus reduced price Youth tickets for 11 to 17-year-olds, free entry for children under 11, payment plans and City Resident discounts are all available.
