It's common knowledge that washing our bedding regularly is crucial for eliminating germs and enhancing sleep quality.

Sleep experts generally recommend washing sheets weekly, but those with pets or allergies may need to do so more frequently. Equally important is the cleanliness of your pillows, which should also be cleaned from time to time to maintain their freshness.

TikTok cleaning influencer Jack Designs, followed by over 1.4 million users, advises washing your pillows annually. He has provided a simple tutorial on the process, highlighting the 'most important' step that should not be overlooked, reports the Express.

How to wash your pillows

Begin with a gentle detergent and a laundry sanitiser to achieve optimal results. Jack, equipped with his cleaning essentials, instructed to wash pillows at 30 degrees.

As he loaded the machine, he noted: "I'm doing two at the same time to balance out the drum."

Start your pillow cleaning by simply adding the usual laundry detergents and starting the washing machine. After the wash cycle, remove the pillows to give them a thorough shake, ensuring the filling is evenly distributed again.

Then it's time for the tumble dryer. For best results in keeping your pillows plush, include a couple of dryer balls in with them. During the drying process, you may want to occasionally take the pillows out for a shake to maintain their fluffiness.

Jack offered some key advice: "The most important thing is your dry them properly - some pillows can only be air dried, so wait till summer if that's the case."

The video's comments were full of people thanking Jack for his advice, with one person writing: "Thanks for the tip!! Never actually washed my pillows but makes sense."

Another said: "Wash mine in summer always, I've noticed they dry up faster than winter."
