Pundit slates Leicester City 'calamity' and makes Jarrod Bowen guarantee

Dean Saunders says Ruud van Nistelrooy has ‘walked into a mess’ as the Dutchman battles to keep Leicester City in the Premier League.

But the former Wolves manager, who took the Molineux outfit down into League One in 2013, urged van Nistelrooy to sort out the defensive issues which have seen City concede the second most goals in the division.

They head to West Ham this evening looking to capitalise on the fact both Wolves and Ipswich failed to capitalise on decent positions against Fulham and Manchester United in midweek – knowing a fifth win of the season would put them within two points of safety.

But speaking on talkSPORT the ex-Liverpool and Aston Villa striker could not escape from the problems at the back and even tipped them to gift yet more chances to the opposition.

“It’s not his fault, by the way, he's walked into a mess, and that's when you normally do get a job unless you're [Arne] Slot, who's walked into a Bentley – but he's walked into a mess, with no confidence and he's trying to keep them up and so it's not really his fault,” Saunders told talkSPORT.

“But what I would say is, self-destruct. Leicester, I'll guarantee you tonight, right. I'll bet you any money you like that one of their defenders passes the ball to Jarrod Bowen in front of their own goal.

“It's self-destruct, so they're losing games, just giving stupid goals away. Somehow he's got to tighten the team up and try and get a 0-0 to get some confidence in.

“Wolves are letting the door open, they could have shut the door a couple of games ago, but they're leaving it open for one of these teams, obviously Southampton are down, but one of these two teams, Ipswich or Leicester, if they, if they win three games on the trot…

“But they've got to stop self-destruct[ing], I watch them and it's just like calamity at the back.

“The way I always look at it, you've got to win ten games, doesn't matter who you play against, and if Arsenal, for example, turn up at Leicester and they're complacent and the players think they're going to win before they get there. You can beat Arsenal.

“That's sometimes an easier game than playing Crystal Palace, who are fighting like mad for everything.

“So as long as you win ten games, and at the moment, what have they won? Three? I think two or three [sic], you've got to win another six games and I can't see it happening, to be honest.

“You've still got a chance with Vardy playing, providing he only has to score one, he's got to score three every week.”
